Insurance Coverage for Medical Wigs (Cranial Prosthesis)

Did you know that many insurance plans will cover part or all of the cost of a medical wig (cranial prosthesis) with a doctor’s prescription? We make the process simple by guiding you every step of the way.

📌 What You’ll Need

  • A doctor’s prescription for a “cranial prosthesis” (not just “wig”)

  • A Letter of Medical Necessity (depending on your insurance)

  • Your insurance card and policy information

📋 Steps to Get Reimbursed

1. Complete the Client Intake Form

2. Book Your Virtual Consultation

  • After you submit the intake form, schedule your virtual consultation.

  • We’ll discuss your needs, head measurements, and insurance details.

3. Obtain Documentation

  • Get a prescription from your doctor (it must say “cranial prosthesis”).

  • We’ll provide a Superbill/Invoice and all supporting forms.

4. Submit to Insurance

  • You or your provider will submit the claim using HCPCS code A9282 – Cranial Prosthesis.

5. Receive Reimbursement

  • Many insurance plans cover 80–100 % of the cost.

  • You’ll receive payment directly from your insurance company.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Coverage varies by insurance plan.

  • Out-of-network providers are still eligible for reimbursement in many cases.

  • You are entitled to one cranial prosthesis per year with most plans.
